Mr. James "Curley Cooke"
Blues in the School Music Program
P.O. Box 3941 Federal Way, WA 98003
On behalf of Atlantic Street Center's NewHolly Youth and Family Center, I would
like to thank Mr. James "Curley" Cooke and the musicians of Blues in the Schools
for unmasking the joys of music for our local youth. The Blues in the Schools
Music Program provided an opportunity for youth (9-18 years of age) in the NewHolly
community to be exposed to a variety of musical styles, instruments and the excitement
of live performance.
This highly interactive program allowed youth participants to explore music they
typically did not listen to in a relaxed and entertaining environment. Blues in
the Schools musicians skillfully taught youth how to play instruments, follow
rhythms and sing to a live band. It was a pleasure to see the positive interactions
between the musicians and youth. The masterful instructors at Blues in the Schools
are true professional musicians that have the ability to engage and energize crowds
of any age.
It is clearly apparent that learning music during adolescence is a benefit to
youth development. The energy and efforts of Blues in the schools exceeded expectations
and was a treat for all of us.
Thank you,
